Nisa Rizki Rainy (PhD student)

Research Interests

I am primarily interested in understanding the role of parents and siblings in shaping children’s development, with a focus on understanding the genetic and environmental mechanism(s) –and their interplay – by which genetic liability towards mental health disorders eventuates into realised difficulties for children.

For my PhD research I will be using large-scale family polygenic score data from several longitudinal cohorts to better understand the intergenerational paths linking genetic liability (indexed by polygenic scores), parent-child relationships (e.g., measures of parenting), and child developmental and behavioural outcomes (e.g., psychopathological traits). The findings will further our understanding of causation for child mental health problems,  the viability of using polygenic scores as predictive tools in psychiatry, and will inform parenting interventions.
