Huge congratulations to GEL lab student Dr Charlotte Willfors, who successfully defended her PhD thesis in February! Her thesis was entitled ‘Identification of biobehavioral markers of neurodevelopmental disorders in twins’. Charlotte conducted her PhD in Sweden, and as is custom, her defence was a public event with a large audience including her supervisors, GEL lab director Professor Angelica Ronald as well as Professor Sven Bolte and Dr Katell Mevel.
In March the GEL lab ran a popular Evolution Workshop for 60 children in year 3 at Rhodes Avenue Primary school. Children made DNA molecules out of pipecleaners, played a special evolution-focussed version of the ‘Tray Game’ and answered mind-boggling quiz questions on everything from the Big Bang to why some people can wiggle their ears.
